What the evidence adds up to
Syringocystadenoma papilliferum is a benign adnexal skin tumour that usually appears at birth or during puberty, most often as a solitary lesion on the head and neck. A 2013 case report describes a scalp lesion in an adult male that was clinically mistaken for keratoacanthoma before histological examination confirmed the diagnosis. A 2014 report presents an unusual case of multiple verrucous lesions located on the right flank, an uncommon site outside the head and neck region. No drug treatment is described in any of these reports.
The malignant counterpart, syringocystadenocarcinoma papilliferum, is a rare sweat gland carcinoma. A 2004 report describes a 60-year-old man who had two verrucous plaques on his right auricle since childhood; these became ulcerated, painful, and pruritic over one year. Histopathology confirmed syringocystadenocarcinoma papilliferum. He was treated with Mohs micrographic surgery followed by reconstruction of the right auricle. There were no signs of recurrence or metastasis six years after the operation.
No systemic therapy, topical agent, or repurposed drug is mentioned in any of these abstracts. The only reported successful intervention for the malignant form is surgical excision with margin control. For the benign form, diagnosis is histological and no treatment outcome data are provided.

Syringocystadenocarcinoma Papilliferum: Successfully Treated With Mohs Micrographic Surgery
AbstractBACKGROUND: Syringocystadenocarcinoma papilliferum, a rare sweat gland carcinoma, is the malignant counterpart of syringocystadenoma papilliferum. OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate a rare case of syringocystadenocarcinoma papilliferum successfully treated with Mohs micrographic surgery. METHODS: A 60-year-old male presented with two verrucous plaques on his right auricle since childhood. These two plaques became ulcerated, more painful, and pruritic in 1 year. Histopathologic examination revealed syringocystadenocarcinoma papilliferum. RESULTS: Mohs micrographic surgery with reconstruction of right auricle was performed subsequently. There are no signs of recurrence or metastasis 6 years after operation. CONCLUSION: Syringocystadenocarcinoma papilliferum can be successfully treated with Mohs micrographic surgery.

It is relatively a rare neoplasm, which is called as a childhood tumour, since it usually appears at birth or during puberty. A case of syringocystadenoma papilliferum of the scalp in an adult male has been presented, which was clinically diagnosed at first as keratocanthoma of the scalp but was later histologically confirmed as syringocystadenoma papilliferum.

AbstractSyringocystadenoma papilliferum is a benign hamartomatous adnexal tumour. Most of the patients present with solitary lesions in the head and neck region at birth or in early childhood. Multiple lesions are rarely seen and those which arise outside the head and neck region are even more uncommon. A case of syringocystadenoma papilliferum with multiple verrucous lesions and which was located in the right flank, an unusual site, has been presented.
