What the evidence adds up to
The abstracts provided do not describe a clinical trial of any drug for functional gastric disease. One 1980 study in healthy subjects found that four dopamine receptor antagonists (metoclopramide, sulpiride, haloperidol, pimozide) reduced the gastrin response to a meal after one week of oral treatment, but basal gastrin concentrations were unaffected. No patient with functional gastric disease was studied. A 2007 review notes that nitric oxide inhibits acid secretion and that improved understanding of channels and receptors regulating H+K+-ATPase activity might lead to novel antisecretory agents, but no such agent is tested in the abstracts.
A 2020 review discusses metal–organic framework-based gas-releasing nanoplatforms for cancer therapy, not for gastric disease. A 2001 review on gastric cancer management states that most patients present with incurable disease and overall survival is poor, and that research advances have not been translated into treatment success. Recent advances in the development of metal–organic framework-based <b>gas-releasing</b> nanoplatforms for synergistic cancer therapy
AbstractGas therapy as a burgeoning and promising research field has attracted considerable attention in biomedicine due to its high therapeutic efficacy, biocompatibility, and biosafety. However, the lack of tumor site accumulation and controlled release of therapeutic gas molecules limited the therapeutic efficacy. Therefore, the development of gas-releasing nanoplatforms to realize tumor targeting and controllable release is highly desired. The structural diversity and tailorability and ultrahigh surface area make metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) find potential applications in the delivery and release of gas or gas releasing molecules (GRMs). In this Frontier article, we provide an overview of the recent developments achieved in gas-involving cancer therapy using MOFs or MOF-based materials. The main emphasis is focused on the design of multifunctional MOF-based nanoplatforms for the delivery and release of therapeutic gas molecules, and emphasizing their synergistic mechanism against tumor. Moreover, the challenges, future trends, and prospects of gas-related cancer therapy are also discussed.

AbstractPURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review summarizes the past year's literature regarding the regulation of gastric exocrine and endocrine secretion. RECENT FINDINGS: Gastric acid secretion is tightly regulated by overlapping neural, hormonal, paracrine, and intracellular pathways in order to achieve the correct amount of acid secretion required by the specific situation. Too little acid can interfere with the absorption of iron, calcium, vitamin B12, and certain drugs as well as predispose to enteric infection, bacterial overgrowth, and gastric malignancy. Too much acid can induce esophageal, gastric, and duodenal injury. Gastrin, histamine, acetylcholine, and ghrelin stimulate whereas somatostatin, cholecystokinin, atrial natriuretic peptide, and nitric oxide inhibit acid secretion. Most patients infected with Helicobacter pylori manifest a pangastritis and produce less than normal amounts of acid; those with antral predominant gastritis, however, are hypergastrinemic and produce increased amounts of acid. Improved understanding of the channels and receptors that are required for and regulate H+K+-ATPase activity should lead to the development of novel antisecretory agents. SUMMARY: A better understanding of the pathways regulating gastric secretions should lead to new strategies to prevent and treat a variety of gastric disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, autoimmune gastritis, gastric cancer, and functional dyspepsia.

Effect of Four Dopamine Receptor Antagonists on Gastrin Secretion in Healthy Subjects
AbstractThe effect of 1 week of oral treatment with four antidopaminergic drugs--metoclopramide, sulpiride, haloperidol, and pimozide--on fasting and meal-stimulated serum gastrin levels has been evaluated in healthy subjects. All of the four drugs significantly reduced the gastrin response to a meal, whereas basal concentration was unaffected. It is suggested that this action is mediated by central nervous system dopamine receptor blockade, which might act either via nervous or humoral mechanisms to inhibit gastrin release.
Towards a molecular approach to gastric cancer management
AbstractGastric cancer is a leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Most patients with gastric cancer present with locally advanced and incurable disease, and overall survival is poor. Considerable research efforts towards the epidemiology and pathogenesis of gastric cancer have not been translated into treatment success. We discuss current concepts of the pathogenesis of gastric cancer and how recent research advances, in particular global gene expression strategies, may improve this understanding, and suggest a framework wherein these approaches may be used.

AbstractCurrently, The treatment methods for early gastric cancer mainly include endoscopic resection and surgical resection. Traditional radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer often results in complications such as impaired quality of life, weight loss, and post-gastrectomy syndrome. Function-preserving gastric surgery (FPG) aims to ensure radical resection of early gastric cancer while selecting appropriate reconstruction methods, minimizing the extent of surgery, and preserving gastric function as much as possible, which can improve patients' quality of life. However, there is currently a lack of standardized postoperative functional evaluation criteria for function preserving gastrectomy, and the selection of functional evaluation methods in clinical practice is often biased, which cannot effectively evaluate the overall function of patients. Therefore, this article discusses the functional evaluation of gastric preservation surgery from three aspects: postoperative quality of life, recovery of gastric function, and nutritional status.
