Chronic Stress and Ovarian Function in Female Childhood Cancer Survivors

AbstractOBJECTIVES: To explore the relationships among perceived stress, biomarkers of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) activity, gonadotropin levels, and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) in female childhood cancer survivors (CCSs). SAMPLE & SETTING: 24 female CCSs from the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, Scotland, were included in the study. METHODS & VARIABLES: Perceived stress was measured using the Perceived Stress Scale. HPA activity was measured using salivary cortisol and hair cortisol. Ovarian function was measured using serum gonadotropin levels and serum AMH levels. Latent growth curve modeling was used to determine diurnal cortisol slope and intercept. Bayesian structural equation modeling was used to explore the relationship among perceived stress, biomarkers of HPA activity, and ovarian function. RESULTS: The authors found an inverse association between perceived stress and ovarian function and a positive association between biomarkers of HPA activity and ovarian function. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING: Further research is needed to understand factors contributing to risk for post-treatment reproductive dysfunction in female CCSs.

The problem of combined diseases in the reproductive system of the women

AbstractAnnotation. This article highlights the urgent problem of combined diseases of women's reproductive system. On the basis of theoretical analysis, generalized statistics for recent years are presented. The modern concepts of pathogenesis of diseases of the uterus and mammary glands, their correlation, as well as models of diagnosis and treatment are considered. Indeed, a more in-depth understanding of the problems of the combined pathology of the woman’s reproductive system (diseases of the uterus, ovaries, mammary gland), namely etiopathogenesis, diagnostic and treatment algorithms, will reduce the incidence of women of reproductive and perimenopausal age, as well as improve their quality of life. Only having the fullness of information about the state of the reproductive system of women, the doctor is able to prescribe thoughtful and effective treatment.

Malformations of this system may interfere with female hormone production, fertility and childbearing, development of secondary sexual characteristics, and appearance of the external genitalia. Evaluation requires imaging of the internal sexual structures and studies to determine chromosomal sex, as well as other studies to determine the cause.

Reproductive Immunology: Open Access (RIOA) is an international, peer-reviewed, journal that publishes new articles in all the related topics of reproductive immunology. The main goal of the journal is to provide a forum for researchers and clinicians to disseminate new research findings and concepts related to the field of reproductive immunobiology. Here, we highlight several novel findings recently published in RIOA.
