What the evidence adds up to
Cavernous hemangioma of the face is a benign vascular tumour, but it is about one-tenth as common as capillary hemangioma and much less likely to undergo spontaneous involution. It tends to have a more aggressive course and may cause complications related to its location. One case report describes a patient who developed a huge haematoma of the right face from a cavernous hemangioma. Another reports a 52-year-old man who had a hemangioma from childhood that grew over 45 years to cause extreme cosmetic deformity. No drug treatment is mentioned in any of these abstracts.
Diagnosis can be missed. A patient with a barely noticeable lump on the lower medial eyelid underwent two exploratory surgeries without a diagnosis, and additional exploratory surgeries were recommended by other ophthalmologists before an MRI finally confirmed an orbital cavernous hemangioma. The patient’s account emphasises that patients can contribute by doing research, being informed, asking questions, and seeking second or third opinions.
Management of cavernous hemangioma of the tongue in a 2-year-old and a 14-year-old child used different approaches, but the abstracts do not specify what those approaches were. No controlled trials, no drug interventions, and no quantitative outcomes such as response rates or survival are reported in any of these papers. What is missing is any clinical trial testing a drug for this condition, any systematic comparison of treatment approaches, and any data on patient stratification by lesion size, location, or age.

How cavernous hemangioma went undiagnosed and lessons learned
AbstractA barely noticeable lump on the bottom medial part of my right eyelid went undiagnosed after two exploratory surgeries. Additional exploratory surgeries were recommended in subsequent consults with different ophthalmologists without anyone suggesting diagnostic tools (eg, MRI). An MRI ultimately confirmed a common condition called an orbital cavernous hemangioma. Patients can contribute to their patient experience by doing research, being informed, asking questions, and getting a second, even third, opinion, if necessary.

AbstractHemangioma is the most common, localized, benign vascular tumor of the head and neck. Cavernous hemangioma is about one-tenth as common as capillary hemangioma, although congenital, is often not apparent at birth and may undergo a rapid growth phase during the first 6 months of life. Cavernous hemangioma is much less likely to undergo spontaneous involution and tends to have a more aggressive course, and may result in complications related to its location. Large and Long Standing Cavernous Hemangioma of Cheek
AbstractABSTRACT Cavernous hemangiomas are relatively rare vascular malformations especially in an adult. The childhood hemangioma generally regresses spontaneously. We present the case report of a 52-year-old male patient, who had a hemangioma from the childhood and it had grown to such a large size so as to cause extreme cosmetic deformity for the patient.
